Identification and New CogAT Information

To be considered for SRVUSD GATE identification, a student whose National Age Composite Percentile Rank is at 98 or above is considered for Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) identification.  Additionally, as of September 2007, a student whose National Age Composite Percentile Rank is 97 AND has scored a 99 in ONE of the three areas (Verbal, Quantitative or Non Verbal), will be considered for GATE identification.

 2nd Grade Students:

All 2nd grade students are administered the CogAT (Cognitive Abilties Test - GATE) during the third trimester. This test consists of three batteries which measure verbal, quantitative and nonverbal abiltities.

New-to-SRVUSD 3rd - 8th Grade Students:

Previously identified gifted students who are now new to the SRVUSD are considered for GATE identification as determined by the SRVUSD's GATE identification criteria.

English Learners

Riverside Publishing has done extensive research and testing to ensure that the new CogAT Form 7 will fairly measure the constructs and abilities of EL students.  Form 7 includes new art specifications for the verbal and quantitative sections of the test.  For further information about the changes, please see: http://www.riversidepublishing.com/products/cogAT7/ellfair.html.
