High School Advancement

2017 SRVUSD High School Course Advancement Program - 2018 Process will be announced in February 2018

SRVUSD recognizes that some students are interested in advancing in the areas of math, science, world language, and/or college preparatory electives so we have devised a program to help facilitate the process.  Registration for Summer Advancement is a multi -step process as outlined below.  All steps must be completed by the deadlines listed.  Important! SRVUSD accepts only one course per subject area, per school year. (For example, you cannot advance through two math courses in one summer.) Failure to meet any deadline will result in the student being placed on the wait list for the math assessment exam (if applicable) and/or the desired course for 2017-2018.

Step #1 - Enroll in SRVUSD High School Advancement Program by June 2, 2017

  • Complete one SRVUSD High School Advancement Application for each course student is hoping to advance through. Please submit only ONE application per course.

  • Important Notes:

    • Failure to submit an application(s) for the SRVUSD High School Advancement Program will result in student being placed on a Waitlist for Math Assessment Exam (if required)  and/or desired course for 2017-2018

    • Students are only able to advance through one course per subject area, per school year. (For example: students CANNOT advance through both Geometry and Algebra 2 in one school year.)

Step #2 - Enroll in course(s) at chosen Institution by June 30, 2017

  • Click here for a list of possible courses and institutions.  All institutions must be WASC Accredited and UC a-g approved.

  • Please make note of notations in red on some courses.

Step #3 - Provide Proof of Enrollment by June 30, 2017

Step #4 - Take Math Assessment exam on August 4, 2017

  • For students hoping to advance through Algebra 2 or PreCalculus only.
  • There is NO exam for students advancing through Geometry

Step $5 - Hand-deliver an OFFICIAL, UNOPENED transcript by August 18, 2017

  • Transcripts need to be taken to your student’s school by TBD deadline.  District Office will not accept any transcripts.

2018 Requirements and Procedures will be posted in February 2018.  The High School Advancement Program procedures  may be modified so be sure to check back for updates!

Accelerated Algebra 2 Requirement

Students who take Geometry via the SRVUSD Course Advancement Program are not eligible to take Accelerated Algebra 2. These students will be placed in the SRVUSD Algebra 2 class. Click here for more information.

A note about 8th graders who want to Advance...

8th grade students who are currently enrolled in Accelerated Algebra 1 or Geometry can begin taking courses in the spring of their 8th grade year.

It is important to note that 8th graders who are currently enrolled in California State Standards 8 math CANNOT advance through Biology over the summer as Algebra 1 is a prerequisite for any kind of Chemistry class (college prep or Honors) and they will not have met that requirement. Additionally, Algebra 1 must be taken at an SRVUSD school and cannot be taken via a summer course.

Sixth and Seventh grade students cannot advance via the summer advancement program. If you have questions, please contact the counselor at your student's school.
