Denise Jennison

Denise Jennison, Clerk

A quality public education is the cornerstone of our society; every child deserves nothing less. The schools of the San Ramon Valley are excellent. We have outstanding teachers, administrators, and employees who are committed to providing the best possible education to the children and families that they serve. It is the responsibility of the school board to make sure that we maintain the excellence that we have already established while embracing the future of education so that our students are prepared to compete in a global economy.

Denise Jennison was elected to the school board in November 2010. Denise, though new to the board, is not new to the district. She has deep roots in the community and a strong commitment to our children and schools. As an employee and parent volunteer, she has been a voice for educational excellence and fiscal responsibility in our district. She brings experience as both a teacher and classified staff member. Denise was president of the San Ramon Valley Council of PTAs and has served on numerous district committees including the leadership team for the successful Reading & Writing Project and Homework Policy. Because of her vast and varied experiences, Denise has a unique understanding of the needs of our students, staff, and parents, and she has the skills to bring everyone together.

Our public schools are being asked to do more and more with fewer resources. Local elected bodies, such as school boards, are being forced to bear the burden of a severely dysfunctional state government. During these challenging times, Denise believes that we must come together as a community and support our schools locally, while continuing to focus on the bigger picture. Denise has spent many years and much time advocating at the state level for our public schools. She plans to continue this advocacy and use her extensive knowledge of school finance in California to maintain the fiscal integrity of the district.

Denise has both a historic and current perspective on public education. She attended California public schools from elementary school through the University of California. She is the daughter of two public school educators. Three of her four sons attended and graduated from San Ramon Valley Unified School District schools and her youngest is still enrolled. Denise recently completed her teacher training at Western Governors University and is a credentialed teacher. She lives with her husband and four sons in Danville. Denise believes that despite our fiscal challenges, we must come together as a community to maintain academic excellence and ensure that all of our children have access to a high quality education.  She is pleased and excited to be part of the decision-making team that will guide our district into the future of education.
