Frequently Asked Questions
From February through August, 2010 we are in an implementation and training mode for the Infinite Campus Student Information System. During this time an Infinite Campus team is working closely with our District Technology Trainers to prepare our staff for the use of the system.
Why are we implementing a new student information system at this time?
We have known for some time that starting the fall of 2010 our existing student information system (SASIxp) was no longer going to be supported by its publisher. Money was set aside several years ago in anticipation of having to purchase a new system as we consider it very risky to continue with a system that is no longer supported. The student information system is critical for the core operation of the school district and we have many employees in the schools and offices that rely on it daily. It is not something a district can gamble on. We need a student information system that will update regularly to align with changing state reporting requirements, which SASIxp no longer will be able to do. It is our understanding that all SASIxp districts have moved to a new SIS, or are in the process of doing so.
Why did we select Infinite Campus over other products?
A selection team representing various employee groups evaluated several products for nearly a year, including focus group sessions involving 65 different people, totaling over 700 person/hours. From the users' perspectives, the overwhelming product of choice was Infinite Campus. It is currently in use by, or being adopted by, approximately 40 school districts in California, and nearly 2,000 districts nationwide. Other nearby adopters include San Jose USD, Eastside Union USD, Fremont USD, and Dublin USD.
When will I get training?
For training related questions, please refer to the Training page.
When will we be able to use the Infinite Campus portals for students and parents?
We have the unusual situation in that we currently have in place feature-rich portals for secondary students and parents through a separate product called School Loop. During the first transition year (2010-11), we are planning to leave the School Loop portals intact, as they offer features not yet present in Infinite Campus. We plan to conduct limited pilots of the Infinite Campus portals during this first year before deciding how to best roll them out.
