Programs and Services

 

Special Education Programs and Services

The special programs and services outlined here are available at the following locations for students who meet eligibility criteria as individuals with Special Needs under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA 2004). These programs are available to all district students regardless of school attendance area.

San Ramon Early Start Program for Infants and Toddlers and their Families (SITES)
Children from birth to 3 years who display significant developmental delays, have a known disability, or are at high risk for future developmental delay or disability may receive education, consultation, and services. An Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) is developed for those eligible students.
Located at: The SITES program is located at the Mauzy School in Alamo.

Preschool Program
Students with delays who are 3-5 years of age receive instruction and services ranging in intensity depending on the child’s needs.
Located at: Bollinger Canyon Elementary,  Walt Disney Elementary

Special Day Class
A student who requires specialized instruction for more than half of the school day may be placed in a Special Day Class. Special Day Classes serve students on a continuum that includes Learning Handicapped, Emotionally Disturbed and Severely Handicapped. SDC environments are designed to meet the specific needs of these students.
Special Day Classes are located on the following campuses:  Preschool and Elementary - Bella Vista Elementary, Bollinger Canyon Elementary, Country Club Elementary, Coyote Creek Elementary, Creekside Elementary, Golden View  Elementary,  

Greenbrook Elementary, Live Oak Elementary, Montair Elementary, Quail Run Elementary, Twin Creeks Elementary, Walt Disney Elementary  Middle - Charlotte Wood Middle, Diablo Vista Middle, Gale Ranch Middle,  Iron Horse Middle, Los Cerros Middle, Pine Valley Middle, Stone Valley Middle, and Windermere Ranch High School - California High, Dougherty Valley High School, Monte Vista High School, and San Ramon Valley High. IEP teams make placement decisions and students receive services on a continuum from least to most restrictive.

Resource Specialist Program
The Resource Specialist Programs serve students who can benefit from remaining in the general education class for at least half of the school day. They may receive specialized instruction from the Resource Specialist within the general education classroom or in the Resource classroom.

Related Services
When deemed necessary, and as determined by the IEP team, related services may be provided to the student in his/her placement. These may include, but are not limited to: speech/language therapy, adapted P.E., counseling, inclusion support, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and home/hospital instruction.

County Programs
Contra Costa County Office of Education: The Central County Region provides five classes specifically designed for students with deficits (in communication, play skills, relating to others and learning) that need highly specialized, intensive services. Many of these students experience autism spectrum disorders. These classes are located in Alamo, and Lafayette serve children ages three to nine years.
The Contra Costa County Office of Education provides regional programs, located at various sites throughout the County from Alamo to Brentwood. These classes offer a full range of services designed to meet the needs of severely handicapped students from age three to age 22.

Transportation
Home-to-school transportation is provided if the IEP team determines it is needed in order for a child to benefit from his/her education.
