Questions and Answers - Summer School

Although some of our enrichment classes will have some academic basis, they will not be structured to provide remediation of any academic area. Therefore, students with "F" grades will not be recommended for Enrichment Summer School as a means of remediation.

Q:        If my child is attending academic summer school, how many days can they miss?

A:         For High School, students are allowed to miss only 1 day maximum. After the respective maximum limit students will be dropped.

Q:        What academic summer school courses are offered at High School?

A:        The following courses will be offered at high school - English 9,10 & 11, World Geography, World History, US History, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, ELD, CAHSEE Prep. Summer school applications will be available at your school site counseling office in April.

Q:        What about enrichment attendance?

A:        We encourage all students to attend a full session.  There is no maximum number of absences in enrichment since it is a fee-based class. Summer program fees are not refunded or prorated for days of classes missed due to illness or injury. No refunds will be issued if a child is not registered for his/her grade appropriate class. An alternate class can be selected if space is available.

Q:        What do I do if I want my child to attend a different campus?

A:         It is the parent’s choice on where to attend.

Q:        If my child is signed up for two sessions of enrichment, what happens in the 20 min. break?

A:         The students will have a recess break with supervision.

Q:        Where is the summer school for English Learners who need more practice with English?

A:         Check with your child’s teacher to make sure your child needs that type of support. The EL classes will be held at Quail Run Elementary for summer school.  For more information, you can call the ELD office, 479-6583.

Q:        Do I have to pay the full registration fee if my child will go for only two weeks of a month long enrichment class?

A:        Yes. We still need to pay our teachers for the entire class. Summer program fees are not refunded or prorated for days of classes missed due to illness or injury.

Q:        Why are classes canceled?

A:        Summer Enrichment classes use the fees collected to cover the costs involved with running the program. If there are not enough students in a class, the cost of keeping the class exceeds the fees collected. The district does not have excess funds and cannot afford to keep a class that does not pay for itself.

Q:        What happens if a class is canceled?

A:         If there are not enough students to hold a class, you will be given a comparable class or you will be contacted.  If we are unable to accommodate your child in a similar class, we will refund your registration fees.

For more information and Enrichment Class descriptions and fees, please see www.srvusd.net under Summer Programs or call 552-5031.  We will refer you to the correct person for an answer.
